Emirates News Agency – De la Fuente succeeds Enrique in training the Spanish national team

Madrid, December 8, WAM/ The Spanish Football Federation chose today, Thursday, Luis de la Fuente, as the new technical director of the Spain national team, to succeed Luis Enrique, who left the technical leadership of the team following failing to exit from the second round of the 2022 World Cup.
Today, Enrique left the team’s training following being eliminated from the World Cup in front of his Moroccan counterpart on penalties.
De la Fuente, the current coach of Spain’s national youth team (under 21 years), was chosen to assume responsibility and is awaiting the federation’s board of directors to ratify his appointment during the federation’s meeting next Monday, following which the official announcement of the new coach’s assumption.
De la Fuente spent nearly a decade coaching Spain’s national teams for different age groups, and crowned the European Under-19 Championship in 2015, and won the same championship for under-21 national teams in 2021.
De la Fuente, 61, also coached Spain’s Olympic team at the Tokyo Olympics last year, winning the silver medal following being defeated by Brazil in the final.
And if his appointment decision is approved, De La Fuente’s first match with Spain will be once morest Norway on March 25, in the opening round of the European Nations Cup qualifiers (Euro 2024).
