ABU DHABI, 26th February, 2020 (WAM) — Belgian Remco Evenboul was crowned champion of the fifth edition of the Emirates Tour, the only global race in the Middle East, organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
The race included 7 stages, for a total distance of 1028 km, and 140 cyclists representing 20 professional teams participated in it, and its competitions concluded today at the summit of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain.
Evinpoel won the Tour title in his favor, despite the victory of Britain’s Adam Yates, rider of the Emirates team, in the last stage, which was held in Al Ain for a distance of 153 km.
Yitch outperformed Evenpool by only ten seconds in the last kilometers at top speed before crossing the finish line at the top of Jebel Hafeet, and finished the race distance in 3:29:42 hours to finish first in the stage and third in the overall standings of the tour. Australian Lucas Plab, rider of the Eneos Grenadier team, came. In second place in the overall standings.
Evenpol, the rider of the Soudal Quick Step team, won two jerseys following the end of the race, as he wore the red jersey sponsored by (International Holding Company) for the leader in the general standings of the race, and the white jersey sponsored by (Al Nakhil Company) for the best young cyclist under 23 years old.
Tim Merler won the green jersey sponsored by (Italian Trade Agency) for the points leader, and kept the black jersey sponsored by (sponsored by Abu Dhabi Experience) for the leader of the middle-speed stage, Belgian Edouard Planckart, rider of the Ibbelsen Deconink team.
The Emirates team won the title of the best team in this edition of the Emirates Tour.

Evenbühl said: “The race was difficult, and I felt Yates very close to me in the last kilometers, but in the end I had to put all my energy into crossing the limit to reach the finish line, I am very happy with this victory, and to win both mountain stages.
