BASRA, 7th January, 2020 (WAM) — The Bahrain national football team defeated our national football team 2-1 in the match that brought them together this evening, Saturday, at the Olympic Port Stadium in Basra, in the opening of the second group competitions of the “Gulf 25” championship.
Bahrain’s goals were scored by Camille Aswad (60) and Jassim Ahmed Al-Sheikh (77), and substitute Tigali narrowed the difference by scoring the UAE’s only goal in the minute (90).
With this result, the Bahrain national team topped the rankings of the second group, awaiting the result of the match between Kuwait and Qatar, within the same group, which will bring them together this evening as well.
The UAE national team did not translate its advantage in the first half into goals, especially during the first 30 minutes, when its players had more than one opportunity that was not exploited optimally.
The offensive effectiveness of the Bahraini national team did not appear until the last quarter of an hour of the first half, and Khaled Issa, the UAE goalkeeper, managed to tackle two dangerous balls, keeping his net clean.
In the second half, the Bahraini team succeeded in exploiting the skill of strong shooting, and advanced the first goal through its player Kamil Al-Aswad, who hit the ball from a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, which hit the left corner of Khaled Issa in the minute (60), following which Jassim Ahmed added the second goal with a shot. Strong from the borders of the penalty area, the left corner also inhabited Khaled Issa in the 77th minute.
Substitute Sebastian Tigali succeeded in reducing the difference by scoring the first goal for the Emirates with a header that hit the left post of Sayed Jaafar, Bahrain’s goalkeeper, and entered the net in the (90th) minute.
