CANBERRA, 8th January / WAM / Record-breaking floods in Australia in the northwest of the country, isolating several towns as bad weather conditions that began days ago continue, according to the Australian Meteorological Service.
The meteorologists stated that the rainfall decreased with the turn of the former hurricane “Eli” eastward into the Northern Territory, but at the same time warned of the continuation of large, record-breaking floods in the Kimberley region, Western Australia.
In the same context, the authorities said that the floods are the worst in the history of the state, while Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described it yesterday, Saturday, as devastating and pledged to provide federal assistance.
The authorities indicated that Australian Defense Force aircraft were used to help towns affected by the floods.
The town of Fitzroy Crossing, with a population of regarding 1,300, was among the hardest hit, with supplies being flown in due to flooded roads.
