Emirates News Agency – Asian stocks decline in the first session of July

ABU DHABI, July 1st / WAM/ Asian stocks fell at the close of trading today, tracking the impact of the US markets’ declines last night, following renewed concerns regarding the global economic stagnation.

The Japanese Nikkei index closed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, down by 1.73%, or 457.4 points, to reach 25935.62 points, recording its lowest level in two weeks, while the broader Topix index fell by 1.38%, equivalent to 25.78 points, to close at 1845.04 points.

The “ESI” Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange fell by 11 points, or 0.32%, to close at 3,387.64 points, while the Bombay Synx index fell in late trading by regarding 362.67 points, or 0.66%, to reach 52670.21 points.

US indices closed lower at the close of yesterday’s session, with the Standard & Poor’s index recording the largest half-fall since 1970.
