ABU DHABI, 3rd March / WAM/ The General Secretariat of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation has announced the winners of the “Palm in the Tongues of Poets” competition in its sixth 2022 session, which is organized by the award under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees.
The results were as follows: “First Category / Eloquent Poetry” The first place was won by the poet Wiam Essam Rabie from the Arab Republic of Egypt for a poem entitled “In Our Home is an Aunt.” The poet Abbas Abdul-Aali Jassim from the Republic of Iraq came in second place for a poem entitled “ Taj Al-Shumoukh.” In the third place, the poet Shafiqa Wail from the Algerian Republic came for a poem entitled “Sheikh of Palm Sheikhs.” In the second category, Nabati poetry, the poet Youssef bin Obaid bin Khamis Al Falasi from the United Arab Emirates won the first place for a poem entitled “Ghaida every hand.” The second place was won by the poet Ali Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Mujaini from the Sultanate of Oman for a poem entitled “Habiba Al-Qayd” and the third place by the poet Faraj Ayed Al-Hussein from the Syrian Arab Republic for a poem entitled “Bint Al-Bawadi”.
The total number of participants in the competition in its sixth session was 1,212 poets representing 19 Arab countries.
This came in a press statement made by Dr. Abdel Wahab Zayed, Secretary General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, following receiving the results of evaluating the participating poetic works by a jury specialized in classical poetry, Nabati poetry and literary criticism.
The Secretary-General of the award added that the “Palm in the Tongues of Poets” competition aims to employ Nabati poetry as an important means in developing public awareness of the importance of the date palm tree in terms of heritage, agriculture, food and economics, and to provide the Arab library and poetic arena with a distinctive quality of poems in love with the palm tree and to encourage poets to create and write poems Quality and the opportunity for everyone to compete in a transparent manner and achieve fame by highlighting the experiences of poets winning the competition.
