BRASILIA, 29 May/WAM/ At least 28 people died in the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco, due to landslides following heavy rain yesterday.
Civil defense officials in the state said that more than 760 people were forced to leave their homes due to the floods in Pernambuco, while more than 32,000 families live in areas at risk of landslides or floods in the state.
According to the Alagoas state government, 33 towns have declared a state of emergency due to heavy rains in the past few days, and two people have died when they were swept away by a flood caused by landslides.
