Horror flight to Dubai: 14 injured following turbulence – “we thought that was the end”

Just seconds following the captain’s report, the A380 was shaken violently. Dishes, glasses and bags flew around the cabin. Passengers who had not fastened their seatbelts were thrown from their seats and their heads hit the ceiling. Images shared by passengers on X, formerly Twitter, show how the paneling of the Emirates plane was damaged.
The gamer @MattRPD, who is active on the live gaming platform Twitch, was also on the flight and not wearing a seatbelt. On Platform The man on the plane was taken to hospital following landing, where he was apparently diagnosed with a broken neck.
@MattRPD further writes that the turbulence occurred “out of nowhere” and the pilot’s warning came far too late. Passenger Abi was also surprised by the violent turbulence and wrote on X: “I hate flying. The pilot announced turbulence and we should sit down. A second later, I and other passengers flew to the ceiling.”
According to Bild.de, the injured were given first aid on board by crew members and passengers with medical backgrounds. There was additional support with care via a satellite connection with the medics on the ground. At least one passenger had to be given oxygen. Flight EK421 ultimately landed safely in Dubai, where the injured passengers and crew members were transported to hospitals for medical care.
According to Emirates, the plane was caught in sudden squalls over the Indian Ocean at an altitude of 11,500 meters. The airline said: “We can confirm that flight EK421 from Perth to Dubai on December 4th briefly experienced unexpected turbulence during the flight.” According to Emirates, 14 people were cared for by medical staff.
