Discussions during the session focused on solutions and proposals for the main challenges facing the hydrogen economy value chain, including production, storage, transportation, use, and technological solutions needed to enable the hydrogen economy.
This session is the first in a series of dialogues on “The Role of Technology in Climate Action”, an initiative launched by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, with the participation of a number of industry, energy and technology leaders, with the aim of discussing sustainability solutions and climate-supporting technologies ahead of the UAE’s hosting of the Conference of the Parties “COP-28”.
Her Excellency Sarah Al Amiri said that hydrogen is one of the most important environmentally friendly solutions that support the global energy transition and contribute to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Therefore, international cooperation and partnership must be strengthened in order to address all challenges facing the value chain of the hydrogen economy.

Her Excellency explained that the Emirates Energy Strategy 2050 and its strategic initiative for climate neutrality 2050 confirm the UAE’s commitment to supporting global efforts to promote the hydrogen economy, pointing to the need to work with all local and international partners in order to highlight the promising opportunities offered by this sector, and work to take advantage of them to contribute to achieving development. sustainable economy.
She added, “The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology has launched many initiatives and programs that support the development of green industries and stimulate the adoption of their innovative solutions, including the Technology Transformation Program and the Emirates Council for Research and Development to stimulate the development of enabling technology that will enhance the hydrogen economy. These initiatives will raise spending on research and development and strengthen partnerships.” The UAE Climate Technology Forum is an important platform to support the global transition towards clean energy, and we will continue to provide these platforms to promote investment in climate technology in line with the Paris Agreement and to support sustainable economic growth.”
Discussions during the session shed light on the latest global trends in the field of hydrogen and future growth indicators. The participants discussed the most important technologies that can enhance the hydrogen economy, how to ensure the safe and effective distribution of green hydrogen fuel, and the policies and incentives that would support this trend.
The participants also talked regarding the importance of creating an integrated structure of policies and strategies that support the hydrogen economy, focusing on the need to create demand for different types of hydrogen.

The participants stressed that the market share of clean hydrogen produced using carbon capture technology and clean energy will increase, noting that the UAE has a great opportunity to become a global leader in the field of producing clean hydrogen from nuclear energy through its investments in nuclear energy.
An integrated report on the recommendations of the session will be published, which includes a realistic vision of the transition towards hydrogen as an energy source, prior to the convening of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
And to enhance its leadership and competitiveness in the hydrogen markets, the UAE launched a roadmap for achieving leadership in the field of hydrogen in 2021, which is a major driver for providing future solutions for climate action.

The UAE aims to acquire 25 percent of the global hydrogen fuel market by 2030, as part of its strategic directions to achieve sustainable economic development and diversify the energy mix, as the UAE announced its intention to invest 600 billion dirhams in clean and renewable energy projects over the next three decades.
The Emirates Climate Technology Forum, which was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology in partnership with ADNOC and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, witnessed the participation of more than 1,000 leaders of the industrial and technological sectors, experts, specialists and investors from around the world. On the sidelines of the forum, an exhibition and a technical conference were held, through which the latest developments in robotics, artificial intelligence, carbon removal technologies, and alternative fuels that will play a pivotal role in enabling responsible transition in the energy sector will be presented.
