The General Civil Aviation Authority in the Emirates revealed that passenger numbers have been skipped through Country Airports The barrier of 20 million passengers during the first quarter of this year, registering 20.381 million passengers, compared to 8.660 million passengers recorded in the same period in 2021, achieving an increase of 135%.
The Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, Saif Al Suwaidi, said that the recorded numbers prove that the aviation sector in the UAE has succeeded in overcoming the challenges of the Covid-19 crisis and resuming an upward growth phase that reflects the volume of confidence and global standing it enjoys.
Al Suwaidi pointed to the role that Expo 2020 Dubai played in revitalizing the movement of travelers to and from the country during the last period, which came very close to the numbers and rates recorded in 2019, quoting the Emirates News Agency “WAM”.
He said that the UAE aviation sector represents one of the most prominent pillars of the national economy through its significant contribution to the country’s gross domestic product, adding that this sector today constitutes a major nerve in the country’s strategy for the post-oil economy, supported by many actual achievements on the ground and its prominent role in the process of economic and social development. .
Returning to the passenger numbers, the total number of passengers arriving through the country’s airports during the first quarter of this year jumped to 6.901 million, an increase of 114% compared to the same period last year, which recorded 3 million and 232 thousand passengers arriving in the country.
The number of departures through the country’s airports increased in the first quarter of 2022 to reach more than 6.539 million departures, an increase of 108% compared to 3.138 million departures in the first quarter of 2021.
In the same context, the total number of transit passengers through the country’s airports during the first three months of this year increased to 6,940 passengers, an increase of 203% compared to January 2021, which recorded regarding 2.290 million passengers.
Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah airports achieved an increasing performance in terms of passenger numbers in 2021, registering more than 41.370 million passengers, an increase of 15.8% compared to 2020, when the number of passengers reached 35.370 million.
