The body of the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jabir Sabah was laid to rest with official honors. Burial was in Sulaibicat Cemetery. The Sabah royal family, Kuwaiti leadership and high-ranking officials attended the ceremony.
The country gave a very emotional farewell to the leader who made remarkable contributions to the administration of Kuwait for six decades. In the morning, many locals and foreigners participated in the funeral prayer at Bilal bin Rabah mosque.
Heavy security arrangements were made in and around the mosque. The new Emir Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmed Al Jabir Sabah, Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Jabir Sabah, Ministers, and others participated in the funeral ceremonies, which were restricted to members of the royal family and relatives. Sheikh Nawaf was laid to rest with his loved ones draped in the national flag at Sulaibicat Cemetery. In 2020, Sheikh Nawaf was appointed as the Emir of the country amid major challenges including Covid and falling oil prices. He played a big role in bringing Kuwait to a stable economic security and maintaining peace in the region.
Amir’s death is followed by 40 days of official mourning in the country. Government and Semi-Government Public Sector Undertakings have three days holiday from today. According to the order of the Saudi ruler King Salman, the funeral prayer for Sheikh Nawaf was also held in the Mecca and Medina Harams.
