The federal deputy and mayor of Saint-Josse Emir Kir was the guest at 7:50 a.m. this Wednesday in Bel RTL matin. The councilor answered Martin Buxant’s questions.
On June 9, elections will take place in Belgium. A crucial date for politicians, already in the campaign and in the running to lead the territory.
Rumors in the corridors indicated that Emir Kir, federal deputy and current mayor of Saint-Josse, formerly a socialist, would appear on the MR list for these elections. Invited on Bel RTL’s morning show, the latter answered Martin Buxant’s microphone. “It may be February 14, some people wanted to create love stories between each other,” comments Emir Kir. “This is totally false, I decided to get involved in politics with a project which is on the left, which is part of proximity to social justice and social diversity. I never considered that .”
The mayor of Saint-Josse goes on to explain that if this is not the case in Wallonia, in Brussels“decumulation is in order”. Which means that in 2024, it will no longer be possible to be mayor and parliamentarian at the same time. “The time of choice has arrived for me“, he blurted. “Today I am going to announce it: I am going to devote myself 100% to the commune of Saint-Josse.”
Due to the proximity to the population that it requires, the mission of councilor is the one that speaks the most to Emir Kir. “I like politics because I like the population, so I will not go to the Federal Parliament or the regional Parliament.”
What about the dinner with the president of the MR?
Concerning the dinner of the mayor of Saint-Josse with the president of MR Georges-Louis Bouchez which provoked strong reactions in recent hours, Emir Kir did not deny it. “You know when you are in my position, it happens that you are approached by men or political parties, you cannot refuse interviews”he explains. “It’s true that I was eaten once with him, as I ate with others…”
