Several eminent personalities from the worlds of literature, culture, the arts and the media, underlined, Friday evening in Casablanca, the cultural richness, diversity and proliferation experienced by Morocco, today recognized as a model of openness on the other.
Participating in the 10th solemn Chapter of the Brotherhood of the Companions of Gutenberg-Morocco, held following a stoppage of almost three years due to the Covid pandemic, these renowned personalities underlined that the holding of this 10th chapter reflects the unwavering commitment of the Moroccan members of the Brotherhood in favor of humanism, pluralism and acceptance of others, values symbolized by Gutenberg.
In this sense, the Grand Master of the Confrérie des Compagnons de Gutenberg, Philippe Jourdan, highlighted, in a statement to M24, the continuous news channel of MAP, the cultural richness and diversity of Morocco.
The Kingdom “has a diverse and very rich culture”, maintained Mr. Jourdan, saying he was “delighted” to return to Morocco for this solemn 10th Chapter, following a break of nearly three years.
Noting that the Brotherhood’s vocation is to “highlight personalities who are involved in culture and communication”, he noted that each year, new personalities are made “Gutenberg Companions” and “which is great in Morocco is that there is a strong female representation”.
Mr. Jourdan also highlighted “the bonds of great brotherhood” that unite the French and Moroccan Companions of Gutenberg.
For his part, Mohamed Berrada, honorary president of the Brotherhood of Companions of Gutenberg-Morocco, noted in a similar statement that this association aims to promote culture and encourage writing and reading, through several actions, citing in particular the program “How reading has changed my life”, in addition to the initiation workshops on different aspects of culture in the broadest sense.
After the shutdown due to the pandemic, he added, “we are happy to be back with a program that we are establishing to try to achieve the objectives that we have set ourselves in the service of the culture of our country and of universal culture”.
For his part, Mohamed El Ferrane, director of the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM) and member of the brotherhood, noted that this solemn chapter, which brings together professionals and enthusiasts of books, culture and reading , is an opportunity to discuss new developments in the world of publishing.
“It’s also an ideal opportunity to focus on the issues and constraints related to writing and culture in our country,” said Mr. Ferrane.
It is also regarding highlighting the new development model as a roadmap for cultural development at the regional and national levels,” he observed.
The 10th solemn chapter was the occasion to enthrone five personalities as new Companions of Gutenberg, to raise six others to a higher rank and to appoint MM. Abdeljalil Lahjomri, Permanent Secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco and Mohamed Nabil Benabdellah, former Minister, Commanders, supreme rank of the Brotherhood.
Resulting from a twinning with Les Compagnons de Gutenberg – France in April 2010, the association Les Compagnons de Gutenberg – Maroc brings together professionals and enthusiasts of writing with the aim of contributing actively to the promotion and development of reading and culture, contributing to building a just and fraternal world with respect for all cultures.
The Brotherhood of Gutenberg Companions was created in 1979 in France, before expanding through twinning throughout the world.
