Emily is angry. The 47-year-old Briton was fined £35 following visiting her Tesco supermarket twice in the same day in Dover.
The reason ? The parking lot’s ANPR system, a camera that scans license plates, did not register that Emily had left the store and then returned. For the brand, the customer therefore remained parked in the car park for more than 10 hours, which is prohibited.
“I will never go back there once more”
“We are treated like criminals”, begins the Briton questioned by the Mirror. “I am deeply disappointed with Tesco, I will never go there once more. I will now go shopping at Lidl”.
Indeed, Emily struggles to prove that she has not been parked in the parking lot of the supermarket for so long. Tesco gives him 28 days to pay, or the fine will be doubled. “When my husband called Tesco, he was told ‘our cameras don’t lie’. We have been accused of lies,” she continues.
Through her testimony, Emily wishes to inform other consumers and warn them: “People need to know. This will allow them to have the choice to shop in a place that will not fine them if they visit more than once a day”.
Contacted by the Mirror, the Tesco brand has apologized and assures that it will have the fine canceled.
