Kozhikode: A former employee has been arrested in a case of tying up an employee at a petrol pump in Kottuly and stealing money. Sadiqi, 22, a native of Edappal, was arrested by the police from a homestay. Out of the Rs 500,000 stolen from the petrol pump, the remaining Rs 30,000 was recovered from him.
The robbery took place at around 1.40 am on Thursday at the Noble petrol pump in Kottuly. The thief, who was wearing a black mask, tied the employee to a rope and tied him up to steal the money. Police were also investigating the incident focusing on former employees of the pump. It was in this investigation that the suspicion extended to Sadiq.
Police had called all the former employees of the pump as part of the investigation. But only Sadiq’s phone was switched off. With this, the youth was taken into custody and questioned.
Defendant testified that he decided to commit theft at the pump where he had previously worked because he needed money. The young man knew that following 12 o’clock at night there would be only one employee at the pump and that the money would be kept in the office. We arrived at the pump around 12pm on Thursday night and waited for regarding an hour. The robbers then attacked the employee who was counting money in the office following making sure that the other employees had returned.
Defendant admitted that he was wearing black clothes and spoke Hindi during the robbery to mislead the investigation. He was wearing a mask and gloves on his hands. It was inspired by Hindi movies. The accused was wearing a special black coat. This was also crucial in finding the culprit.
The accused, who had earlier worked in a bakery and a supermarket in Kozhikode, has stated that this is his first theft. The young man is using a bike worth around Rs 2 lakh and an expensive mobile phone. The youth told the police that he had spent Rs 20,000 on the loan to repay the loan (EMI). After registering the arrest, the police went to the petrol pump with the accused and took evidence.
