Au Senegal, efforts are underway to find a way out of the crisis. For its part, civil society intends to make itself heard with new demonstrations.
This morning of February 15, the Prisoners’ Movement held a press conference at Amnesty International headquarters in Dakar. He denounces around 250 abusive arrests during the latest demonstrations which followed the announcement of the postponement of the presidential election, and they therefore call for demonstrations on February 17 followingnoon with the Collective of Families of Political Prisoners.
Another march is planned for the same day, Saturday morning, by the civil society platform Aar Sunu Election – “Let’s protect our election” – to demand that elections be held before April 2, which marks the end of the president’s mandate Macky Sall.
One of three people killed during protests buried in Ziguinchor
The pressure is therefore strong while the latest demonstrations have already left three people dead. One of the three victims, Landing Camarasaid Diédhiou, was buried this morning in Ziguinchor.
