Apple’s “Emergency SOS by Satellite” service allows you to contact emergency services in areas not covered by cellular or Wi-Fi networks. Launched a year ago with the IPhone 14, the service is now also available in Switzerland.
Launched a year ago with the IPhone 14, the satellite contact function is now available in Switzerland, Apple reports. The “Emergency SOS via Satellite” service allows users to communicate with emergency services (such as police, fire or medical assistance) in the absence of a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
Available with all iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models, the new feature also serves to notify your contacts when you are in an uncovered area, simply by sharing your position.
When it is necessary to use a satellite connection to contact emergency services, the iPhone displays a chat interface which includes a few questions to provide emergency services with useful information and determine the location of the user in danger with precision.
Since satellite communication has particularities, such as the need to point the phone towards the sky, Apple offers a feature allowing you to test the service to become familiar with it, without actually contacting the emergency services.
