A little less than a hundred asylum seekers, helped by around ten associations such as Coordination and Initiatives for Refugees and Foreigners (Ciré) and the Solidaris network, set up a surprise camp of around sixty tents on Place Sainte-Croix in Flagey (Ixelles), Friday around 6 p.m. This camp was set up because of the “particularly explosive” situation in Brussels.
We are now talking regarding it in the past tense, because news has just reached us: the 80 asylum seekers have obtained a temporary accommodation place in a regional network. Two hotels are made available to accommodate them (until they obtain a fedasil place) and thus prevent them from spending another night on the street. “Despite an increasingly critical situation, the federal government continues to deny its responsibility in welcoming asylum seekers,” notes the group of associations that helped these people.

“This is good news for us. But we know this is only temporary. And Nicole de Moor continues to refuse men, consciously leaving thousands of people in the street where the police are constantly chasing us”says camp participant Amin.
Although the tents are being dismantled, a protest and festive event is being held on site tomorrow.
