The Spanish Society of Emergency and Emergency Medicine (Semes), has warned this Wednesday that visits to the emergency room have skyrocketed between 30 and 50% in this sixth wave, which places these services, also diminished by casualties due to covid from its professionals, “at the edge of the abyss”.

“We warned a few weeks ago and the situation has only gotten worse. We are at the limit. What would happen if we stopped the Urgencies and Emergencies services? The collapse of the system would be immediate“, has criticized the president of Semes, Tato Vázquez-Lima.

According to a complaint, visits to the emergency room, which have increased between 30% and 50%, have already completely exceeded the capacity of these services. “We are exhausted. The emergencies are on the edge of the abyss. We have been warning it for some time and no measures are being taken,” he added in a statement.

Emergency physicians do not want “salary increases, or institutional recognition”, but only the approval of the specialty of emergency medicine and emergencies for “the safety of patients and to improve the Spanish Health System.”

“Mr. Pedro Sánchez, we are on the brink of the abyss. Listen to us at once: Emergency Specialty NOW,” claims society.
