The Minister of Economy and Finance explains that he has started discussions with the United Arab Emirates to meet the need for hydrocarbons in France, following the European Union sanctions on Russia.

How will France meet its need for oil? Bruno Le Maire ensured on Europe 1Sunday, June 5, that “Discussions are already underway with the United Arab Emirates”. “We need to find an alternative to Russian oil,” he added. “We defend a policy of energy independence vis-à-vis Vladimir Putin”, affirmed Bruno Le Maire.

The members of the European Union agreed on Monday 30 May on a progressive embargo. It will initially concern oil transported by boat, ie two-thirds of European purchases of Russian black gold. A temporary exemption has been provided for oil transported by pipeline, in order to lift Budapest’s veto.

“France is the country that best manages inflation”

On the subjects of inflation and purchasing power, which animate the legislative debates, the number 2 of the government assured that his “first responsibility is to protect the French”. He recalled that “France is the country that best manages the subject of inflation” in Europe. “The French economy is solid,” he said.

Bruno Le Maire continued to defend the pension reform. The objective of this reform is, according to him, to“encourage people to work longer to ”finance our social protection system” and “our pay-as-you-go pension”. “All this allows us to finance our pension system and the distribution system (…) It is absolutely essential to guarantee the maintenance of solidarity between generations in France”, he said.
