This phenomenon is not limited to one country without another, rather it is a global phenomenon. In the United States, for example, official statistics for 2021 revealed that regarding 100,000 people were subjected to fraud and fraud through social media, during which they lost $ 770 million. One of the most popular methods of electronic fraud is that the fraudsters claim that they are employees of the bank with which the victim deals, as they ask him to update his bank details, otherwise his bank account will be closed. There is no doubt that the lack of awareness of the human element is one of the most important reasons for the victim falling into the ambush set for him.
Fraudsters also sometimes simulate the trademarks of banks and some commercial establishments or official entities and send them to the Internet through their various applications such as “WhatsApp” or “Instagram” and request disclosure of information or secret numbers of bank accounts and claim that there is a specific problem in the account or claim to update the data or the existence of a hack and so on. that. In order to avoid falling into the traps of electronic fraud, the password must not be disclosed in any way, nor the response if the person is asked to go to the ATM or direct banking services via the Internet. Also, the one-time password or what is known as the verification code must not be disclosed. It is important, upon exposure to any fraud, to promptly inform the bank as well as the security authorities to take the necessary action. There is also a great responsibility on all relevant authorities to build self-awareness and spread a culture of digital security to the various segments of society.
