EM qualifying pots are certain: These are the possible ÖFB opponents

The draw for the European Championship qualification groups for EURO 2024 will take place on October 9th. Austria will be drawn from the second pot following being relegated to the Nations League.

24 nations will take part in the European Championship 2024 in Germany. After all Nations League games have ended, the pot allocation for the upcoming European Championship qualification is now clear.


Austria might qualify for a European Championship for the third time in a row. Whether this succeeds will be decided next year. The draw for the qualifying groups will take place on October 9th. The ÖFB team is drawn from pot 2. For the national team there might be tough but also doable tasks.

Pot 1: Netherlands, Croatia, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Portugal, Belgium, Hungary, Switzerland, Poland

Pot 2: France, AustriaCzech Republic, England, Wales, Israel, Bosnia, Serbia, Scotland, Finland

Pot 3: Ukraine, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia, Ireland, Albania, Montenegro, Romania, Sweden, Armenia

Pot 4: Georgia, Greece, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Armenia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Faroe Islands, North Macedonia

Pot 5: Slovakia, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Belarus, Lithuania, Gibraltar, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova, Malta

Pot 6: Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein

If the ÖFB team is drawn into a group with one of the four Nations League finalists (Netherlands, Spain, Croatia, Italy), Ralf Rangnick’s team will only have to play eight games, as these groups only consist of five teams .

All group winners and runners-up have their starting places for the European Championships secured. The remaining three places will be played out in Nations League group winners play-offs.
