Elvis Ossindji urges women to assert themselves in the mining sector –

The Minister of Mines and Geology, Elvis Ossindji, closed the workshop meeting with the General Manager in charge of the global development of the Fortescue group Julie SHUTTLEWORTH. Organized by Ivindo Iron, a subsidiary of the Fortescue group in partnership with the ATIF group and the Ministry of Mines and Geology, this workshop was held around constructive exchanges in relation to career monitoring, female leadership and commitment to local communities.

Engaged in the HeForShe program, the Minister urged women in the mining sector to take advantage of this workshop to reassess their position and their action within the sector.

“Your leadership, ladies, is crucial to creating an inclusive and safe work environment where workers feel valued and respected; sincerely, ladies, may the Gabonese mining sector be enriched by your presence, we need you”said Mr. Ossindji, closing the workshop

A true leader in the mining sector, Julie Shuttleworth is a true driving force and example to follow in the field. It is to take advantage of his experience that, while passing through Gabon, the Minister of Mines and Geology wished to share his presence with women in the mining sector, both public and private.

From this meeting, the Minister Elvis Ossindji hopes to pave the way for a Networking session between the women of his ministerial department but also to widen the scope of possibilities that his collaborators have of their action and their career.

Biographie Julie SHUTTLEWORTH

A qualified metallurgist and chemist, Julie Shuttleworth AM has over 20 years of experience in the mining industry in Australia, China and Tanzania. His career progressed from plant metallurgist, senior metallurgist, process superintendent, process manager to various general manager positions.

Ms Shuttleworth has been with Fortescue Metals Group since October 2013, becoming Deputy Managing Director in February 2018 and Managing Director of Fortescue Future Industries in August 2020. She previously spent 13 years at Barrick Gold Corporation.

Ms. Shuttleworth is a Fellow and Chartered Professional of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) and serves on the AusIMM Professional Development Committee. She is also a member of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) and its international committee.

In 2021, Ms Shuttleworth was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for her significant service to the mining and mining industry.
