Austin Butler broke down in tears while filming Elvis biopic. For a scene where Elvis was to take the stage for the first time and was booed, the director wanted to make sure Austin was very much into his role and asked his colleagues to boo the actor.
Austin told VMAN magazine, “So they were laughing at me while I was singing.”
The film was being shot at RCA Studio B in Nashville when the director made this unusual decision.
Austin continued, “When we were filming and Elvis first came on stage, when he was booed, I understood how he felt. I went home in tears. Honestly.”
The 30-year-old actor admitted he was “very nervous” working with the same equipment Elvis used when he was alive.
“I was so anxious, and we were recording with the same equipment that Elvis used for ‘Heartbreak Hotel.
Separately, Austin recently admitted that he felt “a tremendous amount of fear” before playing Elvis.
“I felt such a great responsibility towards Elvis,” he said. “To his family, and all the people who love him so much. I felt a lot of pressure and a lot of fear.”
