I knew Michael since he was 13 or 14 years old.s,” Elton wrote in his memoir. “He was the loveliest little boy you might imagine. But sometime in the intervening years, began to move away from the world and realitylike Elvis Presley did.”

For Elton John, this change was promoted by the medications he began to take and on which he became dependent. “God knows what was going through his head and God knows what prescription drugs were pumping him upbut every time I saw him in his later years, I walked away thinking the poor man had totally lost his mind,” Elton writes in his memoir.
