The turnover of Greek businesses providing accommodation increased in 2023 by 10.1% or approximately 890 million euros and amounted to 9,683,582,528 euros, compared to 8,793,103,758 euros in 2022, according to ELSTAT data.
Accordingly according to ELSTATthe turnover of catering services businesses amounted to 9,227,995,765 euros, marking an increase of 9.6% compared to 2022, where it had risen to 8,421,363,364 euros.
For the accommodation businesses of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover in 2023 greater than 1%, the largest increase in turnover was observed in the Regional Units of Zakynthos (21.7%) and Halkidiki (19.4%), while a decrease was recorded in the Regional Unit of Mykonos (10.9%) and Thira (3%).
For businesses in the service sector of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover in 2023 greater than 1%, the largest increase in turnover was observed in the Regional Units of Corinth (21.3%) and Zakynthos (21%), while a decrease of 2 .9% was recorded in the Regional Unit of Mykonos.
Cumulatively for the businesses of accommodation and catering services, the turnover in 2023 amounted to 18,911,578,292 euros, marking an increase of 9.9% compared to 2022, where it had risen to 17,214,467,122 euros.
For the businesses of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover in 2023 greater than 1%, the largest increase in turnover was observed in the Regional Units of Zakynthos (21.5%) and Halkidiki (16.4%), while a decrease was recorded in the Regional Units Sections of Mykonos (8.1%) and Thira (2.1%).
In all of the Accommodation businesses, the turnover in the fourth quarter of 2023 amounted to 1,315,040,025 euros, marking an increase of 14.2% compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, where it had risen to 1,151,321,445 euros. For the businesses of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover in 2023 of more than 1%, the largest increase was observed in the Regional Unit of Kos (28.6%) and the smallest increase (3.8%) in the Regional Unit of Kefalonia, while a decrease recorded in the Regional Unit of Thira (2.7%) and Mykonos (1.7%).
In all food service businesses, the turnover in the fourth quarter of 2023 amounted to 1,979,722,478 euros, marking an increase of 6.3% compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, where it had risen to 1,861,816,389 euros.
For the businesses of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover in 2023 greater than 1%, the largest increase was observed in the Regional Unit of Corfu (12.5%) and the smallest increase (2.2%) in the Regional Unit of Rethymnon, while the a greater decrease was recorded in the Regional Unit of Magnesia (6%).
For businesses in the accommodation sector, with an obligation to keep duplicate books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in December 2023 amounted to 206,688,127 euros, marking an increase of 14.7% compared to December 2022, where it had risen to 180,165,140 euros.
For catering services businesses, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in December 2023 amounted to 211,034,600 euros, marking an increase of 7.1% compared to December 2022, where had risen to 197,091,272 euros.
