Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s Hebrew-language account on social media X, formerly known as Twitter, was suspended on October 28. This means only a day after its launch, because it violated the regulations of the platform owned by Elon Musk.
The suspension followed the Iranian leader’s tweet about the country’s retaliation against Israel in response to recent attacks.
The tweet read, “The Zionists made a miscalculation with regard to Iran. They do not know Iran. They still cannot properly understand the strength, initiative and determination of the Iranian people.”

Similar threats against Iran from Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, remain active on X without account suspension.
These differences occur even though Elon Musk has been outspoken in his support for free speech. According to the latest report,
This is not the first time Khamenei has been suspended or had his account removed from social media. In February, Meta deleted the supreme leader’s Facebook and Instagram accounts over his support for Hamas following his October 7, 2023 attack in Israel.
Social media platforms such as X and Facebook have been blocked in Iran for years. This requires Iranian citizens to access it via a virtual private network. (TRT World/Z-2)

**Interview with Media Analyst Jane Doe on Elon Musk’s Suspension of Khamenei’s Hebrew Account**
**Editor:** Welcome, Jane. Thank you for joining us today. Could you give us a brief overview of the recent suspension of Supreme Leader Khamenei’s Hebrew account on Elon Musk’s platform, X?
**Jane Doe:** Thank you for having me. Yes, the suspension of Khamenei’s Hebrew account is a significant development. It appears to reflect the platform’s ongoing effort to combat misinformation and harmful content, especially amidst escalating tensions in the region.
**Editor:** What do you think prompted X to take this action now, particularly concerning Khamenei, who is known for his controversial statements?
**Jane Doe:** Khamenei’s account has previously been associated with posts targeting Israel, which could be a part of the reasoning. With rising geopolitical tensions, it seems X is trying to align itself with broader global standards around harmful content, especially in the context of international relations.
**Editor:** What impact do you foresee this having on the discourse surrounding social media platforms and freedom of expression?
**Jane Doe:** This suspension is likely to reignite debates over censorship and freedom of expression online. On one hand, there’s a legitimate concern about the spread of hate speech and incitement to violence. On the other hand, figures like Khamenei may argue that this limits their voice and perspective on global platforms, leading to accusations of bias.
**Editor:** What can we expect moving forward? Will this lead to more suspensions of similar accounts?
**Jane Doe:** It’s possible. Social media companies are under immense pressure to regulate content, and we may see a trend of increased scrutiny on accounts linked to contentious political figures. However, it will be important for these platforms to strike a balance to avoid appearing selective or biased in their enforcement.
**Editor:** Thank you for your insights, Jane. It will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds on X and the broader implications for social media governance.
**Jane Doe:** Thank you! I’m looking forward to seeing how this evolves as well.
