Cn Monday morning, amid the ruins of Chassiv Yar, on Ukraine’s eastern front, Ukrainian soldiers searched for the Russians outside the broken windows of a building. Bogdan Borodai, 25, a member of the 25th “Aidar” battalion, manipulates a controller with buttons, his eyes riveted on a screen. He sees what his little drone is filming in real time from the sky. “That, there,” he said, tapping the screen, “that’s a tank. Every few hours we discover a bunch of Russian soldiers. »
These drones worth several thousand euros delivered by the Chinese manufacturer DJI can travel up to fifteen kilometers away and multiply the round trips around the city of Bakhmout, the scene of fierce fighting. The videos are transmitted in real time to Bogdan Borodai and his team on the screens of their command center, where the decision as to a possible strike on the identified positions will be taken.
