The information is taken from a forthcoming biography on him published by CNN. He was reportedly so worried about the potential outbreak of nuclear war that he blocked the use of Starlink to prevent a major Ukrainian naval drone attack on the Russian fleet near Crimea. Specifically, Ukraine had equipped a swarm of naval drones with Starlink receivers and was in the process of using them to attack the Russian fleet.
For Musk, informed of this intention, Russia would have experienced a “mini-Pearl Harbor” which could have precipitated a nuclear war. He then allegedly asked engineers to deactivate Starlink in Crimea. A maneuver which deprived the drones of their connectivity during the operation with, as a consequence, their loss. This is an unprecedented situation, as a businessman had the power to change the course of the war by saving Russian missile launchers targeting Ukrainian cities.
