The versatile businessman believes that this project might make a great contribution to the world of AI.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled Optimus, the humanoid robot developed by his company, during an event called Artificial Intelligence (AI) Day, held at its headquarters in Palo Alto, California, USA.
It is a bipedal robot capable of moving its hands in the air and walking without mechanical support. During the presentation, its actuators, equivalent to the muscles of the machine, and its adaptable robotic hands were shown, which will allow it to grasp and manipulate a wide range of objects.
Last year, Musk explained that the robot — which he believes will one day cost more than Tesla’s vehicles — should be able to perform everyday tasks like grocery shopping or working in the company’s factories.
Now Tesla employees have explained that they are working on a special battery and actuators so that Optimus keeps power consumption to a minimum and can run for a whole day on a single charge.
They have detailed that they are using their experiences developing computer vision systems to understand how to make the robot work in the real world.
“Future of Abundance”
The multifaceted businessman believes that this project might make a great contribution to the world of AI, which is why he urged the “most talented people in the world” to join Tesla to help make it happen.
In this sense, he pointed out that he believes that the humanoid robot “can help millions of people” because, if it works, the world will enjoy “a future of abundance, a future where there is no poverty, where people can have you want in terms of products and services.”
“It really is a fundamental transformation of civilization as we know it,” he said, detailing that he expects it to be released between 2025 and 2027. Later, he tweeted that there will be a female version of Optimus.
