Last Monday, in a speech on the

When asked regarding the timeline for developing artificial general intelligence (AGI), Musk said: “If you define AGI as being smarter than the smartest humans, I think we will likely reach this within the next year, or within two years.”

The meeting took place between Elon Musk and the CEO of the Norwegian Wealth Fund, Nikolai Tangen, via the “X Spaces” service, in which the American billionaire also stated that artificial intelligence is limited by the availability of electricity, and that the next version of the “Grok” robot, which is an intelligent chat robot from his company. The startup, xAI, is expected to conduct training by next May.

Musk, who co-founded OpenAI, also pointed out that the lack of advanced processing chips hinders training the second version of the “Grok” artificial intelligence model.

Musk stated that training the “Grock 2” model required regarding 20,000 H100 graphics processing units produced by Nvidia, adding that the “Grock 3” model and later models will require 100,000 H100 units.

But he also added that although the chip shortage represents a major obstacle to the development of artificial intelligence so far, electricity supply will be crucial over the next year or two in this context.

Musk founded XAI last year to compete with OpenAI, which he filed a lawsuit once morest on charges of abandoning its primary mission to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity and not for profit. OpenAI subsequently denied these allegations and entered into a public conflict with Elon Musk.
