Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in an interview with the media on Friday (7th) that the conflict in the Taiwan Strait is inevitable, which may cause a loss of 30% of the global gross domestic product (GDP), and proposed that Taiwan become “a special administrative region of China” to prevent conflict.

Musk mentioned in an interview on Friday that the conflict in the Taiwan Strait is inevitable, but it will bring huge costs to the world, and the manufacturing plants of large technology giants such as Tesla and Apple in China will face serious consequences. One of the solutions Musk mentioned is to make Taiwan a reasonably viable special administrative region of China, just like Hong Kong and Macau.

“It’s not going to please everyone, but I think it’s actually a very likely scenario, and there might be a more lenient arrangement than Hong Kong,” Musk said frankly.

Musk’s remarks, who have always been close to China, sparked a war of scolding among Taiwanese netizens, saying “too ridiculous”, but this is not the first time Musk has made comments on geopolitics.

Musk had previously proposed a peace plan between Ukraine and Russia, and launched a poll suggesting that Russia and Ukraine must “re-run a referendum in the Russian-occupied area”, “recognize Russia’s sovereignty over the Crimean Peninsula”, and “ensure that the Crimea water supply” and “grant neutrality to Ukraine”.

Musk’s Russia-biased remarks immediately drew condemnation from Ukrainian officials including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Tesla (TSLA-US) fell 6.32 percent to $223.07 a share on Friday. apple (AAPL-US) fell 3.67 percent to $140.09 a share.
