Elon Musk announced Monday that accounts that have been inactive on Twitter for years will be removed from the platform, in his latest decision aimed at boosting the social network’s activity.

The owner of Twitter tweeted on his page, “We will remove accounts that have not been active at all for years, so you will notice that the number of your followers will decrease.”

Messy decisions

Since his acquisition of the platform for $44 billion at the end of October, Musk has launched major changes in Twitter by dismissing a large number of employees, making provocative decisions, and making chaotic changes.

And while a number of advertisers have stopped dealing with Twitter and its application, it does not seem that the new paid subscription formula, “Twitter Blue”, will compensate for the losses, according to analysts.

However, the head of “Tesla” and “SpaceX” continues to make radical changes to Twitter, driven by the return of a large number of his fans to the platform.

In a poll he launched Sunday, he asked Twitter users, “We’re working hard to make the platform as fun as possible… How do you compare it to what it was six months ago?”

The result was that regarding 46% out of 1.5 million respondents answered “better” and 38% voted for the “worst” option.

Research firm Insider Intelligence reports that Twitter revenue will drop 28% this year because “advertisers don’t trust Musk.”

In an interview with the BBC, Musk confirmed the opposite, pointing out that the company had noticed the return of advertisers and was “almost at the break-even point.”
