Elon Musk, the owner of X (Twitter), announced on his thread on Friday that the functionality that allows you to block an account on the platform will be removed.

The controversial businessman, however, did not specify the date of implementation of this new measure.

Musk was responding to a tweet from the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley group, which questioned the point of blocking, when you can mute.
«[La fonction] “block” will be removed as a “feature”, except for DMs [messages privés]“, can we read on the account of the billionaire.

He then added: ‘That doesn’t make sense’.

Blocked accounts cannot follow the user who blocked them or even see their messages, which was originally a security measure put in place by Twitter, before its acquisition in 2022 by Elon Musk.

This announcement is in addition to several others. It in turn anchors itself within the framework of the wave of changes initiated by the owner of the platform.

The most recent being the modification of the name – Twitter has become X –, accompanied by that of the logo and following the addition of new functionalities, among others.

Elon Musk had notably announced that the accounts, to be “verified” and therefore display a blue hook, should pay the platform via the “Twitter Blue” subscription.

This news did not really please the twittosphere, including the verified accounts.

“If I can’t block people anymore, then I’ll stop using the app. I can’t be monetized, I can’t share my work on the platform, and now I’m forced to interact with people I don’t like?

For other reasons, the Auschwitz Montreal account also regretted this decision. “We have chosen to block users who promote denial and hatred. This decision stems from a deep dedication to our mission”, can we read in a tweet.

“We need a safe space to do that. Engaging in conversations with people and accounts that seek to abuse the memory of Auschwitz victims goes once morest the values we believe in,” the account added.
