The Commander of the National Army of Colombia, General Luis Emilio Cardozo Santamaría, revealed that the guerrillas of the Darío Ramírez Castro War Front of the ELN used ‘tatucos’ to attack the former La Plancha de Anorí Territorial Training and Reintegration Space (AETCR) where ex-combatants of the extinct FARC live there and where they live with their families.

In their work of guarding that site arranged by the National Reintegration Agency for the generation of projects with peace signatories, the military bore the brunt of the attack with these improvised explosive devices condemned by International Humanitarian Law. The attack occurred eight years after the signing of the Peace Agreement.

The ‘tatucos’ are artisanal explosives that can be thrown at a distance of between 600 and 800 meters and their damage, as in this case, is fatal.

“So, what kills and what affects the troops is the fragmentation of those elements. Once they fall, those grenades explode and those elements that they have practically organized with glass, screws, nuts, pellets and others, become shrapnel, which are what affect the integrity of our men,” said General Cardozo in an interview with Blue Radio.

The soldiers who fell in the terrorist attack were identified as Fabián José Regino Mora, Iván Darío Reina Carabalí, Carlos Andrés Ramos Martínez, Yoiser David Redondo Arias and the second corporal, Fredys David Robles Romero, whom the Army recognized for their sacrifice to safeguard the integrity of the peace signatories and their families.

“To the families of our brave soldiers, we express our most sincere condolences on behalf of all members of the National Army. “His sacrifice in the line of duty will always be honored,” they said in a press release.

They talk about peace and attack the signatories

The governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona, who from the beginning condemned the attack, criticized the fact that these groups outside the law sit at a negotiating table with the National Government, while attacking those who kept their word.

“There is a paradox, those who seek to negotiate with the Government attacking peace signatories who have negotiated and honored their word with the National Government in other contexts,” he said.

The departmental leader once again demanded that the National Government end the ceasefire with any armed structure so that, in this way, the Armed Forces can confront them with “forcefulness.”

They identify those who planned the attack

The Ministry of Defense, for its part, revealed that those who planned the condemnable attack with these artisanal explosive devices are the ELN leaders known as aliases ‘Dylan’ and ‘la Mona’.

“The leaders of the ELN, alias ‘Dylan’ and ‘La Mona’, would be those allegedly responsible for the cowardly act against the AETCR in Anorí, Antioquia, which claimed the lives of five soldiers of the National Army, who were fulfilling the constitutional mission of protecting the lives of staff in the process of reincorporation,” they reported in their X account.

On the other hand, the National Army reported that the four soldiers and the civilian who were injured in the terrorist act are recovering satisfactorily in a medical center in Medellín, where they were transferred by helicopter.
