Elizabeth II “overwhelmed” by emotion just before her appearance on the balcony: this phone call from Prince Charles that changed everything

Among the highlights of the festivities on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s reign, her appearances on the balcony of Buckingham Palace delighted the thousands of Britons who had made the trip.

Acclaimed by the crowd, the queen struggled to hide her emotion and this rare and intense moment might not have happened if Charles had not given her a little call shortly before.

As the Daily Mail explains, it was the future king who managed to convince his mother to appear on the balcony. “She wasn’t in her best shape, but the Prince of Wales called her and said if she might, she should come. He told her how many people were desperate to see her and he managed to convince her”explained a source close to the royal family to the British daily.

She had tears in her eyes

This informant reveals that she was very moved just before appearing, to the delight of the British who came in large numbers. “The Queen was totally submerged by the number of people who wanted to see it. She had tears in her eyes before she appeared on the balcony”we are still learning.

In a statement from Elizabeth II published shortly following the festivities, she thanked her subjects for their enthusiasm on the occasion of the Jubilee: “While I was unable to attend all of the events in person, my heart was with you all. I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family”she communicated.
