Elizabeth II: manufactured more than 30 years ago and lined with lead: this is the queen’s coffin

the coffin of the Queen isabel IIin front of which several people will parade to his funeral, was manufactured more than 30 years ago and is made of English oak with a lead coating, details a report published in the newspaper The Times.

The public will not be able to see the face of the queen, whose coffin will remain closed and covered with the royal banner and regalia. Her coffin has the same characteristics as her husband’s, the prince philip, deceased April 2021.

The London Funeral Company Leverton and Sons, in charge of the royal funeral, explained to the British newspaper that they did not know when or who had made both coffins; the truth is that they were given to them in 1991 when they began to work as official suppliers of the British royal house.

“It’s English oak, which is very hard to find” and very expensive, explained manager Andrew Leverton.

The lead lining makes the coffin airtight as it will be placed in a crypt and not buried; however, this material makes it extremely heavy for its eight wielders.

The brass handles are designed specifically for royal coffins, as is the lid, which must support the regalia of the monarchy. “It’s not something that can be done in a day,” Leverton told The Times.

The royal standardemblem of the monarchy that traditionally flew over Buckingham, Sandrigham or Windsor, will be the piece of cloth that will cover his coffin.

On the coffin, which will rest in a family crypt, located in Windsor Castle, two royal insignia will also be placed, the scepter and the orb, a globe topped by a cross that symbolizes the Christian world.

After being exposed in Edinburgh, the coffin was transported to London on Tuesday night. Later, he was placed on a purple-covered catafalque in the Palace of Westminster and guarded by guards.

Who will attend the funeral of Elizabeth II?

The presidents of the United States and France, Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron, are among the few Heads of State whose presence has been confirmed to attend the funeral of Elizabeth II next Monday the 19th in London, although the official list with the 2,000 guests at the event will not be disclosed.

It will be one of the largest events that will bring together members of royal houses from around the world and politicians organized by the United Kingdom in decades.

The invitations were sent out last weekend and it is expected that some 500 Heads of State and foreign dignitaries come to say goodbye to the sovereign, who died on the 8th at the age of 96.
