Today, Monday, the Arab Health Exhibition in Dubai witnessed the launch of the “Ring the Bell of Life” initiative, which is an initiative for victory and hope for cancer patients and survivors.
The Lebanese artist Elissa, a fighter and breast cancer survivor, rang the bell of hope during her presence in the Burjeel Medical City booth at the exhibition. The phenomenon of ringing the bell is considered, in medical custom, an indicator of goodness that patients perform following the end of their treatment journey, and a symbol of healing and recovery, so the singer Elissa becomes through this. The initiative is a source of inspiration for patients diagnosed with cancer, while the initiative celebrates important achievements in the patient’s journey, from the beginning of treatment until the moment it ends.
The “Ring the Bell of Life” initiative seeks to raise awareness and strengthen solidarity among patients, healthcare professionals and the community.
During the dialogue session that she presented at the Burjeel Medical City Pavilion with the aim of raising awareness, Elissa stressed the importance of raising the level of awareness regarding cancer in the Arab world, in light of the high rates of infection with it, especially breast cancer.
Recalling her journey with cancer, Elissa said: “Given my personal history, and the death of my father from cancer, I firmly believe that this disease can be treated successfully if it is detected early, and regular screening for women with breast cancer is extremely important, given the high incidence of cancer.” “Cure rates are significantly higher than other types of cancer.”
The Lebanese artist considers herself lucky because she discovered cancer early, even though she went through a difficult time when she learned of her diagnosis. Initially, as a public figure, she chose to keep her illness a secret, and following completing her treatment, she decided to use her experience to raise awareness regarding the disease within. Society, stressing that psychological support from family and friends for cancer patients is very important in helping individuals overcome the challenges of the disease.
