WACO, Texas – In a significant development for Baylor volleyball, standout Elise McGhee has been selected in the fifth round of the Pro Volleyball Federation Draft by the San Diego Mojo, marking a historic moment for the program. This announcement came Monday afternoon, adding excitement to the college athlete’s career.
In the second round of the PVF Draft, the talented outside hitter was notably chosen as the second pick in the fifth round, which places her at an overall ranking of 34th. This selection signifies not only her skills on the court but also her potential impact in the professional arena.
To qualify for the draft, players were required to be 18 years or older on the day of selection and must have been recognized as college athletes. This meant that athletes like McGhee, who showcased exceptional talent, were eligible for consideration. Interestingly, there was no obligation for players to declare for the draft, and those chosen have the option to return to college if they still have eligibility remaining, should they decide against signing with their Pro Volleyball Federation team.
Currently, the Pro Volleyball Federation boasts a competitive roster of eight teams, including franchises such as the Atlanta Vibe, Columbus Fury, Grand Rapids Rise, and others, with San Diego Mojo being one of the exciting new additions to this league.
As the Bears approach their final two matches of the regular season, McGhee leads the team impressively, boasting 369 kills, averaging 3.84 kills per set, and a hitting percentage of .245. Furthermore, this San Antonio native has recorded a team-high of 36 aces and has contributed significantly with 48 overall blocks. Over her four-year collegiate career, McGhee has accumulated an impressive total of 1,081 kills, along with 163 blocks and 69 aces—an indication of her prowess and consistency on the court.
The Mojo finished the previous 2024 season with a respectable 13-12 record, making it to the PVF Championship Semifinal. They play their home games at the Viejas Arena in the vibrant city of San Diego, California.
Additionally, in July, the San Diego Mojo strengthened their roster further by signing former Baylor Bear Lauren Harrison for the 2025 season. Harrison, who competed overseas with VBC Cheseaux in Switzerland following her graduation from Baylor in 2022, joins the Mojo in hopes of making her mark in the league.
Remarkably, McGhee becomes the first Baylor player to be drafted into the Pro Volleyball Federation, highlighting the university’s growing influence in professional volleyball. Although Shelly Fanning was signed to the Atlanta Vibe in May 2023 and Yossiana Pressley was signed to the Omaha Supernovas in June 2023, McGhee’s selection marks a new height for Baylor volleyball.
The 2025 season for the Mojo kicks off on January 9, where they will face off against the Orlando Valkyries on the road in what will also be the PVF’s opening night. The Mojo will return home on January 16 to play against the same team, setting the stage for an exciting start to the season.
Teams will compete in a demanding 28-match schedule, culminating in a thrilling four-team championship weekend scheduled for mid-May, which will feature two semifinal matches leading up to the sought-after title contest.

**Elise McGhee:** Thank you so much! It’s an incredible honor and quite surreal. Being the first from Baylor to be drafted into the PVF feels like a massive step not just for me personally but for the entire program. I’ve worked really hard over the past four years, and it’s amazing to see that effort paying off in this way.
**Interviewer:** You were picked second in the fifth round and ranked 34th overall. What are your thoughts on your selection position?
**Elise McGhee:** I’m absolutely thrilled about where I was picked! It shows a lot of faith from the Mojo coaching staff in my abilities. Rankings can be tricky, but I’m just excited to get onto the court and prove my worth as part of the team.
**Interviewer:** You had an impressive collegiate career with 1,081 kills and numerous accolades. How do you think your college experience has prepared you for the professional level?
**Elise McGhee:** My time at Baylor has been invaluable. The coaching staff pushed us to improve every day, and I learned so much about game strategy, teamwork, and resilience. The competition in the NCAA really prepared me for what lies ahead in the PVF, and I’m eager to take those lessons into the professional arena.
**Interviewer:** You still have eligibility left. Have you thought about what your next steps will be if you choose not to sign with the Mojo?
**Elise McGhee:** It’s definitely something I’ve considered, but I’m feeling really positive about starting my professional career. There are so many opportunities to grow and challenge myself at this level. If the situation arises where I can’t sign, then I’ll evaluate my options, but right now, I’m focused on making the most of this exciting opportunity.
**Interviewer:** The San Diego Mojo had a solid season last year, making it to the semifinals. How do you feel about joining a team that’s already showing such promise?
**Elise McGhee:** It’s fantastic! Knowing that I’ll be joining a team that’s already competitive gives me a lot of motivation. I think we have the potential to go even further this upcoming season, and I can’t wait to contribute to that goal.
