That’s what it’s about

  • At the beginning of December, Elisabeth Reisinger tore her cruciate ligament.

  • A torn meniscus was discovered during the operation.

  • This additional injury significantly extends the rehabilitation phase.

Elisabeth Reisinger had a serious fall on the descent in St. Moritz at the beginning of December. Shortly later the bad news came: the cruciate ligament was worn out. Two weeks later the damaged knee was to be operated on. When the 27-year-old woke up after the operation, the doctors didn’t have any good news. During the procedure, it was discovered that the speed specialist had also suffered damage to the meniscus and a partial fracture of the tibial plateau.

The operation turned out to be more complicated than expected, and the rehab and forced break from the Ski World Cup were even longer. This is not the first time for Reisinger that she has had to fight back. In 2014, the Austrian broke her tibia and fibula. In 2016 and 2020 she tore a cruciate ligament in her left knee. Now the right knee is causing concern during the fourth long injury break.

“Was angry with me”

However, giving up is out of the question for Reisinger. In the Austrian newspaper “Krone” she says: “At the beginning I was sad and angry with myself that it happened. But now that the operations have gone well and we’re back to organizing everyday rehabilitation, things are going better.” It is not yet clear how long her path back to the World Cup will take. However, this season is over for the 27-year-old.

For her teammates from the speed team, things won’t continue until the new year. In Zauchensee, Austria, the Super-G in St. Moritz will be rescheduled on January 12th, the race in the Engadin fell victim to the weather. The technicians will be back in action shortly after Christmas. A giant slalom will take place in Lienz on December 28th and a slalom one day later.
