Élisabeth Borne becomes the new Prime Minister of France

French Prime Minister Jean Castex handed in his resignation on Monday following almost two years in office. His successor will be the previous Minister of Labor.

As is customary in France, President Emmanuel Macron, following his re-election and beginning his second five-year term, has appointed a new prime minister, or in this case a female prime minister, as the first step in forming a government.
