“We are going to deactivate the corona barometer, or rather put it to sleep,” said Elio Di Rupo on the set of the program ‘Jeudi en bonus’ (RTBF) on Thursday evening. The Walloon Minister-President confirmed the end of the obligation to wear a mask in public transport. A consultation committee is convened on Friday at 2:00 p.m. The federal government and the minister-presidents of the federated entities will analyze the health situation, which is currently favorable, and will decide on some easing of the measures.
Since March 7, the corona barometer has been in code yellow, the lowest level. Almost all measures intended to slow the spread of the virus have been lifted. The mask, however, remained compulsory in places of care, pharmacies and on public transport.
Thursday evening, Elio Di Rupo was positive: the corona barometer will be put “to sleep”. In addition, “we will say that, in public transport, it will no longer be necessary to wear a mask. It will however remain recommended when you cannot respect the distance of 1.5 meters.” On the other hand, “it will be obligatory to keep the mask in hospitals, at the doctor’s and at the pharmacist’s.”
The lifting of the barometer will not be the only decision taken on Friday. “We are developing a system in case the Covid should come back, maybe in the fall,” added Elio Di Rupo. “For the moment, fortunately, for all vaccinated people, there is no very, very great danger, unless we have diseases that aggravate the situation. But there can always be a variant….” , he warned. A new vaccination campaign remains possible next fall: “we will put in our budget, as a precaution, financial means”, he announced.
“We open, we release. And at the same time, we remain cautious and we prepare in case,” concluded the Walloon Minister-President.
