Elina Svitolina defeated Japan’s first tennis racket at the 2024 Olympics

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina started at the 2024 Olympics with a victory over Japanese Moyuka Utijima, the 66th racket of the world ranking.

Svitolina, the reigning bronze medalist of the Olympics, played Utijima in a head-to-head match for the first time. It was the first round of singles.

Elina Svitolina closed the first game with a score of 6:2 in her favor. Subsequently, the athlete closed the match after 62 minutes on the court with a score of 6:1. Thus, the game ended with a score of 2:0 and a victory for Svitolina, who is now on her way to the round of 16.

In terms of actively won balls, parity was maintained between the tennis players — 11:11. Elina hit 55% of her first serves and finished the match with 10 unforced errors.

Svitolina became the first Ukrainian tennis player in the 1/16 finals of the Olympics. Marta Kostyuk and Diana Yastremska, who will play with New Zealander Lulu Sun and Brazilian Laura Pigossi, can join her in the second round.
