European League of Football Welcomes New Team, Faces Departures as it Sets Stage for 2025 Season
The European League of Football (ELF) is gearing up for an exciting 2025 season, welcoming a new team while saying farewell to a familiar face. The league announced a 16-team roster representing nine nations, marking another milestone in its ambitious growth trajectory.
Nordic Storm Joins the Roster
Denmark’s Nordic Storm will be making its ELF debut, bringing a fresh wave of energy to the league. This expansion brings the total number of nations represented in the ELF to nine, underscoring the league’s burgeoning international appeal.
Barcelona Dragons Depart, Milano Seamen Take a Pause
In a surprising turn of events, the Barcelona Dragons will not be returning for the 2025 season.ELF Managing Director Zeljko Karajica acknowledged the departure, stating, “The ELF has grown rapidly since it was founded four years ago, but is still a young league. In a franchise system, it is completely normal and unsurprising that locations develop differently. Many different factors play a role here. Our goal of 24 teams in the final expansion stage remains unchanged.”
Meanwhile, the Milano Seamen will take a one-year hiatus in 2025. The team, however, is far from disappearing. Paolo Mutti, president and co-owner of the Seamen, reassured fans, “We believe in the success of the ELF and will return in 2026 with a changed ownership group that will create both the economic and infrastructural conditions to form a stronger and more competitive team from Italy.”
Focus on Quality and Competition
While acknowledging the natural ebb and flow of a young league, Karajica emphasized the ELF’s commitment to fielding competitive and high-quality teams. “Our primary goal is to provide fans with a product that is attractive in every respect and to offer a competitive league,” he explained. “That’s why, in addition to expansion, we are increasingly focusing on the quality of the teams. We have learnt that from the past season.”
ELF commissioner Patrick Esume echoed these sentiments, stating, “Of course, it’s a shame that things are not continuing in Barcelona. But a certain amount of fluctuation is part of it. Only two founding members are still playing in the NFL, both under different names. Countless teams have disappeared from the scene over the years, while others have joined. Achieving stability in the field of participants is an unavoidable process that we have factored in from the outset.”
A 2025 Lineup Full of Contenders
The 2025 ELF season promises to be another exciting chapter in the league’s growth story. Returning champions Rhein Fire will look to defend their title against a field packed with talent and ambition. Joining them will be fellow German teams Berlin Thunder, Hamburg Sea Devils, Munich Ravens, Frankfurt Galaxy, Cologne Centurions, and Stuttgart Surge.
From Austria, Vienna Vikings and Raiders Tirol will be vying for top honors, while Madrid Bravos will represent Spain. Panthers Wroclaw from Poland, Prague Lions from the Czech Republic, Fehérvár Enthroners from Hungary, Helvetic Mercenaries from Switzerland, and Paris Musketeers from France round out the diverse and competitive lineup.
Who are the two teams that are departing from the ELF in 2025?
