Idukki: An elephant named Chakkakomban was killed by a car at Pooppara in Idukki. Four people, including a child, were injured in the accident. The incident took place on the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway at around 7 pm on Tuesday.

Chakkakompan was hit by a car carrying Thankaraj and his family, a native of Choondal. The car hit the car without realizing that the elephant had come down to the road. The family was going from Poopari to Chundal. Residents say that the accident happened because the elephant suddenly entered the road. After the car hit, the violent elephant tried to break the vehicle by kicking it.

The injured were treated at a private hospital in Poopara and taken to Theni Medical College. It is reported that no one’s injuries are serious. Passengers were injured following the front window of the car was broken.

The area where the accident took place is Ananthara. For the last two days, the jackfruit was present in the area. It is not clear whether the elephant was injured in the accident. Efforts will be made by the forest department to check the matter by Wednesday. The forest department also stated that if the elephant is injured, there is a higher chance of becoming violent.
