Impressive progress and announcements from the body of the native Athenians
President of the old “Association of Athenians” was re-elected for the five years 2023-2028 The journalist and General Director her “Heat” K. Eleftherios G. Skiadas, who presented the work produced, mainly the radical renovation of the historical facilities in Plaka, the creation of the “Athenian Museum” and the donations of a national nature. Also presented was the planned project which includes the digitization of the vast treasures of the Association and the Digital Museum, the creation of the “Athenian Residence” and the “Archive of Architecture and Urban Planning” in collaboration with the University of West Attica.
The elections were held in an exemplary manner in the Association of Natives, which completes this year 128 continuous operation and offering to the capital (year of establishment 1895). The main priorities of the Association are the continuation of its function as a custodian of Athenian History, the availability of the rich material of its libraries, archives and all kinds of collections to the public and research.
Also the constant offer of the “Social Annex” of the Association which in recent years serves the needs of more than three hundred families in need. Simultaneously the Association maintains the entertainment and educational website www.taathinaika.gr which functions as a digital magazine.
The re-elected President pointed out that more than ever the Greek capital is in need of cohesion and revitalization. The triptych Culture – History – Aesthetics must drive the new designs. The future of the city requires its elevation and brave steps. It is necessary that the new generations listen to the messages. The city agencies are obliged to undertake this task. Because “love for Athens is a necessity of life” as Kostis Palamas used to say.
The new Board of Directors were also elected Maria Athanasiadou, Emmanuel Karanikas, Napoleon–Alexander Nezer, Constantine You are shadowing, Harry Stangel, Dimitrios Touka, Chrysoula Grasshopper and George Sucks.
