Japan approved a credit of around two million dollars for electrification in southern Angola, the president of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, Tanaka Akihiko, announced this Friday in Luanda.
Tanaka Akihiko made the announcement at the end of a hearing granted to him by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, adding that the agreement to formalize the financing might be initialed soon.
Speaking to the press, Tanaka Akihiko also said that the approval of the financing had already been notified to the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the other hand, he said that during the hearing, issues related to cooperation in the fields of education and health were also addressed.
He added that under President João Lourenço he gave priority to training staff, with the modalities yet to be established.
It should be remembered that President João Lourenço was already in the Japanese country in 2019, on the occasion of the Japan/Africa summit, and on a state visit in 2023.
Bilateral cooperation between Angola and Japan began in 1988 with emergency assistance through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
