The ministry’s spokesman, Ahmed Musa, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “All of the ministry’s directions are towards diversifying energy through electrical interconnection projects,” noting that “work is underway with Jordan to establish a line linking the Al-Qaim station with the Risha station inside the Kingdom.”
He added, “The connection points with Saudi Arabia and the routes of the lines have been identified, as the mechanism and the quantities of energy that will be paid through the joint connection have been identified,” noting that “the final connection agreement has been completed with Turkey to push 300 megawatts to the northern governorates, and a conversion station with a capacity of 400 megawatts has been established, except The rise in energy prices in Turkey prompted us to delay the implementation of the agreement.
Regarding the connection with the Gulf, Musa said that “a number of stages of this connection have been completed,” explaining that “we are discussing carefully with the Gulf Interconnection Authority the establishment of a line linking the Al-Faw station, which has been completed with the Al-Wafra station inside Kuwait.”
He stated that “the first phase of this connection will supply 500 megawatts to Basra Governorate.”
Regarding preparations for next summer, Moussa stressed that “there are two plans presented to the Council of Ministers in preparation for next summer. The first is to achieve stability of 24,000 megawatts,” explaining that “this will increase new processing hours for citizens.”
And he continued, “The second plan is that we proceeded with accelerated projects that include removing bottlenecks, establishing conveyor lines, preparing transformer stations, strengthening the distribution sector, installing fixed stations in load centers, in addition to developing nutrients and rehabilitating distribution networks,” noting that “this plan will be implemented with the approval of the budget, and through it.” We will provide a good summer for the citizens, as promised by Prime Minister Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani.”
