The generation of electrical energy in the Ñuble region in December 2023 reached 78,293 MWh, increasing 25.9% in twelve months, which in absolute terms was equivalent to an additional 16,085 MWh, as reported by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Meanwhile, the monthly variation (compared to November) of generation grew 0.7%, equivalent to 524 MWh.
The year-on-year increase in generation in December was explained, to a large extent, by the impact of the Other Sources category, that is, photovoltaic and hydroelectric plants, which totaled 45,120 MWh, recording an increase of 14,026 MWh (45.1% ) compared to December 2022 and a decrease of 1.4% compared to November. In this way, the Other Sources category contributed 57.6% of the total generation in the region during December 2023.
In total, during 2023, Other Sources recorded an increase of 18.3% compared to 2022, that is, it increased by 49,905 MWh.
Meanwhile, thermal sources, that is, plants that are fueled by biomass or diesel, totaled 33,173 MWh, increasing by 2,059 MWh (6.6%) when compared to December of the previous year, as well as registering an increase of 3. 6% compared to November 2023. This category contributed 42.4% of the region’s total generation.
Thus, thermal sources completed 2023 with a cumulative increase of 22.1% compared to 2022, increasing by 67,465 MWh.
In this way, electricity generation in the region, during 2023, registered an increase of 20.3% compared to 2022, a figure equivalent to an additional 117,370 MWh.
Projects
The rapid growth of installed photovoltaic generation power in the region, in recent years, responded to the investment boom in the segment of small distributed generation means (PMGD), which had the advantage of a fixed stabilized price when connecting to networks. of distribution, an incentive that was applied to all plants of up to 9 MW that have declared their construction by October 2022.
According to experts, the upward trend in the participation of renewable sources in the regional energy matrix will continue for a long time, since larger projects are now being presented, both photovoltaic and wind, which will contribute to multiplying the total installed nominal power several times. of generation in the region.
Consumption
According to the INE, the consumption (distribution) of electrical energy in the region reached 69,915 MWh in December, which represented an interannual decrease of 2.2%, equal to 1,575 MWh; and an increase of 16.5% (9,895 MWh) compared to November.
The year-on-year drop was mainly explained by the agricultural and commercial sectors, which in December recorded decreases of 59.6% and 6.3%, respectively, as well as by the industrial sector, which decreased 7.3% compared to December 2022. In the case of the residential sector, which represented 48.5% of the region’s total consumption, it showed a year-on-year increase of 1.2%.
Meanwhile, the accumulated variation in 2023 was 2.1%, equivalent to 15,943 MWh, when compared to 2022.
During last year, in accumulated terms, the industrial and agricultural sectors exhibited a drop in consumption, of 9.2% and 1.2%, respectively, compared to 2022. On the other hand, the residential and commercial sectors recorded increases of 3.8% and 1.7%, respectively.
