According to the EU statistical service, between June and December 2022, the average price of electricity for domestic consumption rose to 28.4 euros per 100 kilowatt hours (kWh), compared to 23.5 euros in the same half of 2021 , and that of gas increased to 11.4 euros per 100 kWh, which compares with the homologous price of 7.8 euros per 100 kWh.
Eurostat points out that following record values reached record values, with the rise in energy prices skyrocketing following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia (on February 22, 2022), the measures adopted by Member States to mitigate the escalation already contributed to the stabilization of costs.
With regard to taxes on the cost of electricity, these have also already seen a sharp drop from 36% to 16% on the EU average (-18.3%) and on gas from 27% to 14% (-15.8 %), relieving domestic consumers, but, warns Eurostat, overloading public accounts.
